Storybook Garden Update

Phase 1 of this project is underway. The "Three Bears" vignette was installed in the spring of 2018 and the Wharton Memorial Foundation Board is excited to announce that the installation of two more vignettes has begun.

Drawing from another classic children's book animal, the "Turtle" vignette was installed in the fall of 2018. It is located in the graded area outside the library's main doors. As shown below, the Turtle invites children to play on and under her shell.

Public Performance Area

You have heard the saying, all the world is a stage, right? The Storybook Garden will be bringing those words to life, as the last project in phase 1. Keep an eye out for a new outdoor public performance area in the Garden.

The Wharton Memorial Foundation Board members would like to thank Dave Jackson and Rick Witt for their help with these projects. Funding for these elements is made possible though the following grantors: Greater Lynchburg Community Foundation, Weyerhaeuser, the Nora Roberts Foundation, the Easley Foundation and the Robert F. Schumann Foundation.
